FERMI & UKTFA full scale fire tests

Monday, July 25th 2011

FERMI is working with the UKTFA to develop new full scale fire tests to provide designers with timber frame systems for use on constricted construction sites. The tests will validate earlier work which identified the benefits of timber treatments, insulation and modular timber frame systems. It will also provide further information for the FERMI RT (copyright) model and assist in validating the guidance developed by FERMI & UK TFA on fire spread risk reduction.

FERMI complete Evacuation Modelling Trials

Monday, July 25th 2011

FERMI have recently developed a computer evacuation model for a major UK shopping centre and then held a real time evacuation trial to test and validate modelling assumptions. FERMI engineers acted as observers and 'shoppers' in order to understand the procedures and experience of shopping centre users and fire marshals. The information has been added to the model which now produces well-validated estimates of evacuation time and procedures. The exercise also provided invaluable information to the centre management.
